The judge comparison tool is useful when you have a choice of venue or department and want to make an informed decision, or when you are preparing to appear before multiple judges in the same week and want to see how their approaches differ.
Starting a comparison. Navigate to any judge profile and click Compare. A comparison drawer opens on the right side of the screen. Search for a second judge and add them. You can compare up to four judges at once.
Alternatively, go to Tools in the sidebar, then Compare Judges, and add judges by name from scratch.
What is compared. The comparison table shows the following for each judge side by side: Ruling grant rates by motion type (demurrer, MSJ, motion to compel, etc.), Tentative ruling posting frequency, Average days from motion filing to ruling, Oral argument style (brief / thorough), Preferred brief length, Common procedural preferences, Local rule highlights, and Appointment date and background.
Interpreting the data. Green shading on a cell means the judge is more favorable on that metric relative to the others in your comparison. Use the motion type filter above the table to focus on the motion category most relevant to your matter.
Exporting a comparison. Click Export to PDF to generate a formatted comparison report you can share with colleagues or include in a trial preparation binder. Firm and Enterprise plans can export with the firm's branding.
Data availability. Comparison data is only as deep as the underlying ruling history. Judges with fewer than 20 rulings in our dataset are marked with a low-data warning. Do not rely on comparisons for judges with this warning without additional independent research.
